Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted the vast potential of the India-Japan partnership in emerging technologies, urging both nations to replicate their successful collaboration in the automobile sector across new domains such as batteries, robotics, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and nuclear energy.

Addressing the India-Japan Economic Forum in Tokyo, PM Modi said Japan has been an important partner in India’s ‘Vikas Yatra’ (development journey) and stressed on deeper cooperation in manufacturing, technology, green energy, skill development, and innovation.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Like we did in automobiles, we can recreate the same magic in batteries, robotics, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and nuclear energy. Tech-Talent synergy will power this century’s technology revolution, with a focus on green energy, next-gen infrastructure, and people-to-people ties.”

Echoing Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s remarks, PM Modi said, “Japan’s excellence and India’s scale can create a perfect partnership. Japan is a tech powerhouse and India is a talent powerhouse. Together, we can lead the technology revolution of this century.”

He further noted the signing of an India-Japan Joint Credit Mechanism for cooperation on clean fuel and a sustainable green future. Highlighting India’s economic trajectory, he underlined that the country enjoys political and economic stability, policy transparency, strong banking systems, low inflation, and nearly USD 700 billion in forex reserves.

“India is today the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Very soon, it will become the third-largest economy globally, contributing 18 per cent to world growth,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Japan (August 29–30) to participate in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, aimed at advancing the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations.
