Madhya Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Jagdish Devda, presented the state’s budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, totaling Rs 4,21,032FYF crores, in the assembly on Wednesday. This marks a 15% increase from the previous year’s budget, which stood at Rs 3.65 lakh crores.
The budget has been designed with a focus on doubling the state’s budget size over the next five years. Key areas of emphasis include boosting capital investment, expanding infrastructure in roads, irrigation, and power, attracting investments for healthcare, and generating employment opportunities.
Devda noted that public feedback played a significant role in the budget preparation. “Suggestions received from over 1,500 citizens, as well as input from economists and experts, have been incorporated into the budget for 2025-26,” he stated.
Major allocations in the budget include Rs 26,797 crore for the Women and Child Development Department, Rs 23,535 crore for healthcare, and Rs 58,257 crore for agriculture and allied sectors.
The urban development sector has been allocated Rs 18,715 crore, an increase of Rs 2,000 crores from the previous year, while rural development and Panchayat receive Rs 19,050 crore. Additionally, Rs 1,610 crore has been earmarked for tourism, culture, and religious trusts, with Rs 19,000 crore allocated to the energy sector.
For the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the budget proposes Rs 17,136 crore, and Rs 2,005 crore is set aside for the Simhastha-2028 festival.
