Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that India is poised to achieve a major milestone by exporting electric vehicles (EVs) to 100 countries, marking a significant leap in the nation’s global trade presence.

Speaking at the ET World Leaders Forum 2025, the Prime Minister underlined research and innovation as the backbone of India’s progress. He stressed that while imported research may suffice for basic needs, India’s ambitions demand indigenous solutions, backed by speed, urgency, and a clear vision.

Highlighting India’s growth in the automobile sector, PM Modi recalled that in 2014, the country’s annual automobile exports were valued at around ₹50,000 crore. Today, that figure has risen to ₹1.2 lakh crore, with India also exporting metro coaches, rail coaches, and locomotives. “I want to tell you about another success of India. India is now going to export electric vehicles to 100 countries of the world. A very big program related to this is also being held on August 26,” he announced.

PM Modi further noted that India’s strong fundamentals are driving progress across multiple sectors. He cited record job creation with 22 lakh new formal jobs added in June 2025 alone, the lowest retail inflation levels since 2017, and foreign exchange reserves at an all-time high.

The Prime Minister also spotlighted India’s solar manufacturing capacity, which has grown from just 2.5 GW in 2014 to an unprecedented 100 GW. Similarly, Delhi Airport has joined the elite “Hundred-Million-Plus Club” of global airports, now capable of handling over 100 million passengers annually—a feat achieved by only six airports worldwide.

In a development that has drawn international attention, Modi noted that S&P Global Ratings recently upgraded India’s credit rating for the first time in nearly two decades, reflecting global confidence in the country’s economic trajectory.

“India, guided by the mantra of Reform, Perform, and Transform, is not one to stir stagnant waters but to redirect the course of fast-flowing streams,” PM Modi said, reiterating that India has the capacity to reshape even the course of time.
