CM Mohan Yadav Invites Uniqlo to Invest in Madhya Pradesh During Tokyo Visit

The company also highlighted its plan to recruit more skilled Indian IT professionals for its global workforce.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav met with Tadashi Yanai, the founder of global apparel giant Uniqlo, in Tokyo on Wednesday, inviting the company to set up production and distribution facilities in the state. The discussion centered on the potential for expansion in Madhya Pradesh, particularly in the area of cotton cultivation, with Uniqlo expressing interest in sourcing cotton from India. The company also highlighted its plan to recruit more skilled Indian IT professionals for its global workforce.

CM Yadav emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s role in the “Farm to Foreign” textile trend, noting that the state has a strong industrial base and is well-positioned to support Uniqlo’s growth. He assured the company that the state would take all necessary steps to attract Uniqlo and invited Yanai to the upcoming Global Investors Summit in Bhopal.

Earlier, CM Yadav met with Shohei Hara, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where he invited Japan to invest in hydro projects in Madhya Pradesh. The focus of the discussion was on both public and private sector projects that align with JICA’s potential contributions to infrastructure and hydro power development in the state. Shohei Hara expressed appreciation for the constructive talks and confirmed JICA’s ongoing support for various projects in Madhya Pradesh, including in the power, health, and agriculture sectors.

During his visit, CM Yadav also met with Susumu Kataoka, Chairman of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and his delegation. The Chief Minister extended an invitation for JETRO to establish an office in Madhya Pradesh, positioning the state as an ideal location for investment in India. CM Yadav noted that the upcoming Global Investors Summit would provide a valuable platform for Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh.

In a post on X, CM Yadav said, “Today, I had an extensive discussion on investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh with Mr. Susumu Kataoka, Chairman of JETRO, and his delegation. JETRO expressed their interest in the upcoming ‘Global Investors Summit,’ which will serve as an excellent platform for Japanese companies to understand investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh.”

The CM’s visit to Tokyo also included a meeting with A&D Medical Director Daiki Arai, where he showcased the 75-acre Medical Device and Pharmaceutical Park in Ujjain, positioning it as an attractive destination for global medical device manufacturers. Additionally, CM Yadav discussed the potential use of Japan’s advanced railway technology in Madhya Pradesh with Yuji Fukasawa, Chairman of the Committee on South Asia at Keidanren and Chairman of East Japan Railway Company.

In the spirit of strengthening cultural and economic ties, CM Yadav visited the Senso-ji Buddhist temple in Tokyo, reflecting the historical connection between India and Japan, particularly in the context of Buddhism. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of closer bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

CM Yadav also extended an invitation to Tokyo Mayor Yuriko Koike to participate in the upcoming Global Investors Summit 2025, scheduled for February 24-25 in Bhopal. Additionally, the CM met with a Toyota delegation in Tokyo on Tuesday, inviting them to attend the summit and explore investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh.
