West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose will visit the Panitanki Indo-Nepal border on Wednesday to attend a local programme.

The Governor will be accompanied by Lady Governor Lakshmi Ananda Bose, ADC to the Governor Rahul Pandey, OSD Shrikumar Bandopadhyay, PSO Rakesh Pandey, and attendants Abhijit Thakur and Amitava Bose.

The visit comes at a sensitive time, as neighbouring Nepal remains gripped by Gen Z-led protests, which have triggered widespread unrest. On Wednesday, the Nepal Army extended prohibitory orders and a nationwide curfew, citing escalating violence.

The protests, which began on September 8 following the government’s ban on major social media platforms, have now spread to multiple cities including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal, and Birgunj. Demonstrators are demanding an end to corruption, nepotism, and curbs on free speech.

According to officials, at least 19 people have been killed and 500 injured in clashes with security forces. The unrest deepened further after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation on Tuesday.

Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel is expected to meet protest leaders today to push for dialogue and a peaceful resolution. Meanwhile, the country continues to grapple with its severe jobs crisis, with nearly 5,000 youth migrating daily in search of employment abroad.
