Mansukh Mandaviya Joins Fit India ‘Sundays on Cycle’ Rally on National Sports Day

National Sports Day, celebrated annually on August 29, honours hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and highlights the role of physical activity in daily life.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday participated in the National Sports Day edition of Fit India’s ‘Sundays on Cycle’ rally in the national capital, urging people to make sports and fitness a way of life.

Speaking after the event, Mandaviya said a three-day cycle rally had been organised to mark National Sports Day and praised the enthusiastic participation. “Lakhs of people participated on the first day, sending a strong message that sports are now an integral part of the ecosystem. Today, at more than 10,000 places, Indian youth is on the road with the Sunday on Cycle program,” he told reporters.

Ahead of the event, on August 24, over 10,000 state police personnel across India took part in the 37th edition of the rally, joined by nearly 3,000 NaMo Cycling Clubs. The initiative spanned across 500 districts and 6,000 locations, drawing more than 50,000 participants from both security forces and the public.

Since its launch, the Fit India ‘Sundays on Cycle’ campaign has reached more than seven lakh people across 40,000 locations nationwide.

The Fit India Movement, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, aims to encourage active lifestyles through fun and accessible activities, while also promoting indigenous sports and fitness awareness in schools, colleges, and communities across the country.
