Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha on Monday hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, accusing the Centre of attempting to “finish both internal and external opposition” in the country.

“They want to silence every form of opposition. Has Amit Shah heard the recent Supreme Court observations on the Enforcement Directorate? The Court questioned whether the ED is working as a political wing and under whose directions. With this bill, the government also intends to crush competition within the ruling party itself,” Jha told ANI.

The sharp criticism comes after Amit Shah defended the controversial bill, which proposes the automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers if they are arrested and detained for 30 consecutive days on charges carrying a minimum punishment of five years’ imprisonment.

The Bill, referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of 31 members for detailed scrutiny, has triggered a heated political debate.

Defending the move, Shah said the amendment is meant to uphold “constitutional morality” and ensure accountability across political lines.

“This applies to all, including the Prime Minister. Narendra Modi ji has brought a constitutional amendment that even if the PM goes to jail, he must resign. Earlier, Indira Gandhi’s 39th Amendment gave immunity to top offices from judicial review. This is the opposite—it subjects even the highest offices to accountability,” Shah said in an interview with ANI.

The Union Home Minister expressed confidence that the bill would eventually secure passage in Parliament, despite vocal resistance from the opposition.
