Over half a dozen key border-related issues—including prevention of attacks on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and Indian civilians by Bangladesh-based miscreants, tackling trans-border crimes, and construction of a single-row fence—will be raised by India during the 56th Director General (DG)-level Border Coordination Conference with Bangladesh, beginning Monday in Dhaka.
The four-day conference, scheduled from August 25 to 28, will also deliberate on action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) operating in Bangladesh, strengthening border infrastructure, effective implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP), and boosting Confidence Building Measures (CBMs).
The Indian delegation will be led by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary, while the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) side will be headed by its Director General, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
BSF officials told ANI that the biannual conference is aimed at “addressing border-related challenges and enhancing coordination between both border guarding forces.”
The last DG-level talks were held in New Delhi from February 17–20, 2025.
The India-Bangladesh border dialogue framework dates back to 1975, when the first DG-level talks were held in Kolkata. Since 1993, following an agreement during Home Secretary-level discussions, the meetings have been institutionalised as biannual events, alternating between Delhi and Dhaka.
Officials emphasise that such high-level engagements have been instrumental in resolving border issues and ensuring better cooperation between the two nations.
