Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the strong support for CP Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election, during the alliance’s Parliamentary Party meeting in Delhi.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “Participated in the NDA Parliamentary Party Meeting in Delhi this morning. Happy to see the enthusiasm in favour of Thiru CP Radhakrishnan’s candidature for the Vice Presidency.”

During the meeting, PM Modi personally introduced Radhakrishnan to floor leaders, while Union Ministers and MPs warmly congratulated him. According to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, the Prime Minister also appealed to all MPs—including the Opposition—to extend unanimous support to the NDA candidate. “It will strengthen democracy, the Rajya Sabha, and the country,” Rijiju noted.

The meeting at the Parliament Library building was attended by senior leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, and Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Arjun Ram Meghwal, L Murugan, along with MPs Sambit Patra and Subhash Barala.

Meanwhile, extending support beyond the NDA fold, NCP leader Praful Patel described Radhakrishnan as “a good human being with a long public life” and welcomed Tamil Nadu’s representation in the Vice Presidential race.

Radhakrishnan, currently Governor of Maharashtra and a two-time former Lok Sabha MP, will file his nomination on August 20 at 11 am, backed by around 160 members including 20 proposers and 20 supporters. The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9.
