The INDIA bloc on Monday continued its protest inside Parliament premises against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, accusing the Election Commission and the BJP of attempting “vote chori.”
The agitation persisted even after the Election Commission (EC) issued a clarification on Sunday and asked Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to submit a signed affidavit with evidence to support his claims of election rigging.
Prominent opposition leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, and Kanimozhi, joined the protest, holding banners that described the revision exercise as “Silent Invisible Rigging” and called for an immediate halt to “vote theft.”
The INDIA bloc has staged continuous demonstrations since the beginning of the Monsoon Session on July 21, drawing criticism from treasury benches for stalling House proceedings.
Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju urged the Opposition to take up EC-related disputes directly with the poll body instead of disrupting parliamentary business.
Parallelly, Rahul Gandhi pressed ahead with his 16-day ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar. Starting the second day of the rally from Aurangabad, Gandhi vowed to cover over 1,300 km across 20 districts, mobilising people to “protect the most fundamental democratic right—one person, one vote.”
On social media, he posted: “16 days, 20+ districts, 1,300+ km… We are coming among the people with the Voter Adhikaar Yatra. This is the fight to save the Constitution.”
Rahul Gandhi and other Mahagathbandhan leaders will continue the yatra on August 19, moving from Punama Wazirganj (Gaya) to Barbiga via Nawada.
