The Indian Army on Tuesday dismissed reports circulating on social media that claimed a ceasefire violation had occurred along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch region.
In an official statement, the Army clarified, “There have been some media and social media reports regarding ceasefire violations in the Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the Line of Control.”
The misinformation surfaced on August 5, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of Article 370 abrogation, fueling speculation online.
Meanwhile, counter-terrorism operations in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered their fifth consecutive day on Monday. One terrorist has been neutralised so far in the joint operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and Special Operations Group (SOG).
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps stated: “OP AKHAL, Kulgam: Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact.”
In a separate operation on July 30, troops from the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps foiled an infiltration attempt in the Poonch sector, eliminating two terrorists. The operation, code-named Operation Shivashakti, also led to the recovery of three weapons.
“Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs,” said the White Knight Corps, crediting joint intelligence efforts with J&K Police for the successful outcome.
The Army continues to maintain high alert across the region, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the LoC and countering any threats to national security.
