A SpiceJet ground staff member, Mudasir Ahmad, has alleged that he was physically assaulted by an Army officer at Srinagar Airport on July 26 after requesting the officer to pay for excess hand baggage.

Speaking to ANI, Ahmad recounted the violent confrontation, stating, “He hit me on my face with his baggage. He slapped me, punched me, and kicked me. Eventually, he punched me so hard that I fell down.”

Ahmad reportedly sustained a spinal fracture as a result of the attack.

According to Ahmad, the officer was carrying two hand bags weighing a total of 16 kg, significantly more than the 7 kg limit for one cabin bag.

“I stopped him for checking and told him the baggage was overweight and exceeded the limit. He began shouting and refused to comply,” Ahmad said.

The situation escalated when the officer allegedly pushed CISF personnel at the airport and forcefully entered the boarding gate without clearance. He was later brought back by the CISF.

“He even threw items from his bag at another staff member near the boarding gate,” Ahmad added.

The assault is said to have affected four SpiceJet staff members. Following the incident, the Indian Army issued a statement on Sunday acknowledging the matter and ensuring full cooperation with ongoing investigations.

“The Indian Army is committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and conduct. Full cooperation is being extended to the authorities in investigating the case,” said an Army spokesperson.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine the full sequence of events and identify appropriate action.
