Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on August 2 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth approximately ₹2,200 crore, covering a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, urban development, and cultural heritage.
The visit is part of the government’s broader mission to transform Varanasi into a model city, blending modern urban amenities with cultural rejuvenation.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
Infrastructure Development
- Inauguration of widened Varanasi–Bhadohi Road, Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar Road, and the Hardattpur Railway Overbridge.
- Foundation stones to be laid for road expansion and strengthening in rural and urban corridors like Dalmandi, Lahartara-Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur.
- New Railway Overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard.
Power and Utilities
- Launch of projects under the Smart Distribution Project and underground electrical infrastructure worth over ₹880 crore.
Tourism and Heritage
- Inauguration of redevelopment of 8 riverfront Kuccha Ghats, Kalika Dham, Rangildas Kutiya pond and ghat, and Durgakund.
- Restoration of Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, development of freedom fighter site Karkhiyaon, and City Facility Centres in Sarnath, Ramnagar, and Rishi Mandvi Zones.
- Revamp of Munshi Premchand’s ancestral home in Lamahi and creation of an Urban Miyawaki Forest in Kanchanpur.
- Beautification of Shaheed Udyan and 21 other parks.
Water and Sanitation
- Launch of 47 Rural Drinking Water Schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Foundation stone for restoration of kunds like Ramkund, Mandakini, Shankuldhara, and four floating pujan platforms.
Education
- Inauguration of upgraded infrastructure in 53 schools within Varanasi’s municipal boundary.
- Foundation stone for a new district library and rejuvenation of Government High Schools at Jakhini and Lalpur.
Healthcare
- Inauguration of robotic surgery and CT scan units at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital.
- Foundation stone for a new Homoeopathic College and Hospital.
- Opening of an Animal Birth Control Centre and Dog Care Centre.
Sports and Security
- Inauguration of a synthetic hockey turf at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium.
- Opening of a 300-capacity Multipurpose Hall at PAC Ramnagar.
- Foundation stone for new Quick Response Team (QRT) Barracks.
Farmer Welfare
- PM Modi will release the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN, transferring over ₹20,500 crore to 9.7 crore farmers nationwide, taking the total scheme disbursal beyond ₹3.90 lakh crore.
Cultural & Community Initiatives
- Launch of a registration portal for events under the Kashi Sansad Pratiyogita – including sketching, painting, photography, sports, knowledge contests, and the Rojgar Mela.
- Distribution of 7,400+ assistive aids to Divyangjan and elderly beneficiaries.
The Prime Minister is also expected to address a large public gathering in Varanasi following the project launches, reinforcing his government’s vision for inclusive and sustainable development in his parliamentary constituency.
