Hundreds of Lord Shiva’s devotees thronged temples across Gujarat on Friday morning to offer prayers during the auspicious month of Sawan. Prominent among them were the Somnath temple in Patan—one of the twelve Jyotirlingas—and the historic Panchnath temple in Rajkot, both witnessing large gatherings at dawn.

Worshippers gathered at the Somnath temple to chant hymns and perform rituals near the Shivling, as devotional music echoed through the premises. The month of Shravan, considered sacred in Hinduism, is marked by offerings, fasting, and spiritual observances devoted to Lord Shiva.

At the Panchnath temple, believed to be over 150 years old, devotees lined up to offer prayers and perform Rudrabhishek ceremonies, pouring milk, honey, curd, and water on the decorated Shivling as part of traditional rituals.

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, thousands of devotees gathered at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers—in Prayagraj to take a holy dip on the occasion of Shravan Amavasya. The ritual is believed to cleanse sins and bring blessings.

The previous day, Sawan Shivratri was celebrated with great fervour across the country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, where Kanwar pilgrims and devotees visited major Shiva temples to offer prayers.

This year, the holy month of Shravan began on July 11 and will conclude on August 9, marking one of the most spiritually significant periods in the Hindu calendar.
