Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday called on both the government and the opposition to engage in constructive, issue-based debates during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which commenced today.

In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Mayawati expressed concern over the growing public perception that parliamentary sessions often fail to deliver meaningful outcomes due to frequent disruptions, confrontations, and lack of substantive discussion.

“There is a natural concern among citizens that this session may also end up being disappointing, marked by accusations and counter-accusations instead of fruitful debate on critical issues,” she said.

She highlighted urgent matters that require serious attention in Parliament, including inflation, poverty, unemployment, women’s safety, and growing regional and linguistic tensions.

Mayawati stressed the importance of Parliament functioning smoothly to develop and implement long-term strategies for national progress and public welfare.

“New global and domestic challenges are emerging that threaten democracy and sovereignty. These cannot be tackled by the government alone. A collective and united national approach, including the opposition, is essential,” she asserted.

On the sensitive issue of Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack, Mayawati encouraged both sides of the aisle to maintain national interest above party lines.

“The government must take a positive approach to discuss Operation Sindoor, while the opposition should engage cooperatively. National security is a shared responsibility,” she added.

The Monsoon Session is expected to be stormy, with the INDIA bloc opposition gearing up to question the Centre on multiple issues, including the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, the Bihar electoral rolls revision (SIR), and the Air India AI171 crash.

Mayawati’s remarks come as a call for unity and purpose, urging Parliament to reflect the seriousness of the times and deliver on the promises of governance and accountability.
