In view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, all schools and colleges in Meerut district will remain closed from July 16 to 23, as per an official order issued by the District Magistrate.

District Magistrate V.K. Singh stated that the decision was taken due to the closure of key routes for the yatra and to ensure the safety of students and their families. “Like previous years, this time too, all educational institutions will remain shut to facilitate smooth conduct of the Kanwar Yatra,” he said.

To enhance safety and ease of movement for Kanwariyas, the administration has arranged temporary lighting along the entire 45 km Kanwar Path and the 42 km Radhna route leading to Pura Mahadev.

Singh further added, “Seventeen mobile vehicles equipped with LED lights have been deployed. In case of emergencies or lighting failures, these units can be dispatched immediately to assist Kanwariyas.”

The Kanwar Yatra, which began on July 10, is an annual pilgrimage during which devotees (Kanwariyas) collect holy water from rivers and travel long distances on foot to offer it at Lord Shiva temples. The event witnesses massive participation across northern India, with special arrangements made to manage the large influx of devotees.
