External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Washington, DC on Monday for the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (QFMM), being held at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The high-level meeting, scheduled for July 1, brings together the foreign ministers of India, the United States, Japan, and Australia to advance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

According to a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) press release, the ministers will review progress made since the last QFMM held on January 21 in Washington, and discuss new initiatives to strengthen their shared vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. They will also exchange views on pressing regional and global developments in the lead-up to the upcoming Quad Leaders’ Summit, which India is set to host.

Prior to arriving in Washington, Jaishankar visited New York, where he inaugurated a powerful exhibition at the United Nations titled “The Human Cost of Terrorism.” During his remarks, he underscored the urgent need for global unity against terrorism and the importance of exposing state sponsors of terror.

“Terrorism anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere,” Jaishankar said, calling for “no impunity to terrorists, no treating them as proxies, and no yielding to nuclear blackmail.”

He described the exhibition as a “gallery of human courage” and a tribute to victims of terrorism around the world, urging the international community to uphold its collective responsibility in combating terrorism in all its forms.
