On the 18th death anniversary of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, current CM Rekha Gupta paid heartfelt tribute, calling him a steadfast voice for workers, farmers, and marginalised communities in Delhi’s political landscape.

In a post on social media platform X, Chief Minister Gupta remembered Verma’s legacy of public service, simplicity, and commitment to social justice.

“From rural Delhi to Parliament, his life was a symbol of dedication to the nation, simplicity, and relentless struggle. His patriotic fervour and ascetic life of public service will continue to inspire generations,” she wrote.

Senior BJP leaders including Minister Parvesh Verma, BJP Delhi President Virendraa Sachdeva, and Minister Kapil Mishra also attended a prayer meeting to honour the former leader.

Speaking at the event, Kapil Mishra said: “Delhi still remembers Sahib Singh Verma for his administrative acumen, simplicity, and honesty. The foundation he laid is what our government under CM Rekha Gupta is building upon today.”

Born into a rural agrarian family, Sahib Singh Verma began his political journey through the RSS and BJP, quickly emerging as a grassroots leader. His political career saw him serve as Mayor of Delhi (1989–1991), and later as Chief Minister (1996–1998), during which he initiated key reforms in urban development, infrastructure, and pro-poor policies.

Verma was elected MP from Outer Delhi in 1999, and in 2002, was appointed as the Union Minister of Labour, where he championed workers’ rights and employment reforms at the national level.

Tragically, Sahib Singh Verma passed away in a road accident on June 30, 2007, while returning from Rajasthan.

His legacy continues through his son Parvesh Verma, a prominent BJP leader and parliamentarian.
