As vote counting continues for the 2025 Assembly by-elections across five constituencies, early trends from the Election Commission show Congress-led UDF’s Aryadan Shoukath leading in Kerala’s Nilambur, and AAP’s Sanjeev Arora gaining an edge in Punjab’s Ludhiana West.
In Nilambur, Aryadan Shoukath (UDF) holds a lead of 2,286 votes over M Swaraj of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front after the fourth round of counting. The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of independent LDF legislator PV Anvar, who joined the TMC following a fallout with the ruling alliance.
In Ludhiana West, AAP’s Sanjeev Arora is ahead by 2,482 votes against Congress’s Bharat Bhushan Ashu after the second round. BJP’s Jiwan Gupta trails in third place. The seat fell vacant following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi earlier this year.
In West Bengal’s Kaliganj, TMC candidate Alifa Ahmed leads Congress’s Kabil Uddin Shaikh by 2,715 votes after the first round. BJP’s Ashish Ghosh is in third. The by-election followed the demise of TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed.
In Gujarat’s Visavadar, BJP’s Kirit Patel has taken a narrow 150-vote lead over AAP’s Gopal Italia in the third round, while Congress’s Nitin Ranpariya trails.
Meanwhile, in Kadi, also in Gujarat, BJP’s Rajendra Chavda is ahead of Congress’s Ramesh Chavda by a margin of 5,752 votes, with AAP’s Jagdish Chavda in third place. The bypoll was held after the death of BJP MLA Karsanbhai Solanki.
Vote counting began at 8 AM across all five constituencies, with final results expected later in the day.
