Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Canada for the G7 Summit, gifted exquisite traditional Indian handicrafts to the Presidents of South Africa, South Korea, Mexico, and Brazil, each symbolising India’s rich artistic and cultural legacy.

To South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, PM Modi presented a brass dokra horse from Chhattisgarh. Crafted using the ancient lost-wax technique, this tribal artwork represents power, devotion, and cultural continuity, with detailed brass ornamentation reflecting over 4,000 years of artistic tradition.

The President of South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, received a vibrant Madhubani painting from Bihar. Known for its intricate patterns and natural dyes, this traditional art—primarily practised by women—depicts stories from Indian epics and showcases themes of love, nature, and spirituality.

To Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, PM Modi gifted a Warli painting from Maharashtra, a tribal art form created using basic geometric shapes and rice paste. Depicting scenes from everyday rural life, Warli art is a testament to community values, harmony with nature, and simplicity in storytelling.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was gifted a cane and bamboo boat with a swan figurine from Meghalaya. Handmade by Khasi and Garo artisans without nails or glue, this eco-friendly piece symbolises grace, spirituality, and the state’s deep respect for nature and sustainability.

The gift exchange took place during PM Modi’s bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, held from June 16–17. Discussions with these leaders covered a wide range of topics including trade, investment, digital innovation, green hydrogen, and shared priorities of the Global South.

Describing his engagements as “outstanding conversations,” PM Modi affirmed India’s commitment to elevating voices from the Global South and fostering sustainable partnerships.

“We are unwavering in our commitment to building a better tomorrow for the coming generations,” he said in a post on X.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the people and Government of Canada for successfully hosting the G7 Summit, reiterating India’s dedication to global peace, prosperity, and sustainability.
