Over the past 11 years, India has significantly expanded its global footprint, transforming itself into a key player on the world stage through a mix of visionary diplomacy, strategic initiatives, and humanitarian outreach. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged as a consensus builder and influential voice across global platforms.
India’s presidency of the G20 Summit marked a defining moment, particularly through the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, despite global tensions over issues like the Ukraine conflict. The summit also witnessed the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance, positioning India at the forefront of sustainable energy initiatives.
In public health, India demonstrated its global commitment through the Vaccine Maitri initiative, supplying over 30.12 crore vaccine doses to 99 countries and two UN bodies. This humanitarian effort cemented India’s reputation as a reliable global health partner, especially for the Global South.
India’s foreign policy has also featured active participation in key multilateral and plurilateral platforms, including BRICS, QUAD, and the G20, and initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the MAHASAGAR Doctrine, reinforcing India’s dedication to sustainable development and South-South cooperation.
Technological leadership has been another highlight, with India co-chairing the AI Action Summit in Paris, underscoring its role in shaping the future of emerging technologies.
India’s diplomatic outreach has grown significantly, with 39 new embassies and consulates opened between 2014 and 2024, bringing the total number to 219, reflecting India’s increasing global engagement.
India’s commitment to the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad has been repeatedly demonstrated through swift and large-scale evacuation missions, including:
- Vande Bharat Mission (COVID-19, 2020–2022)
- Operation Devi Shakti (Afghanistan, 2021)
- Operation Ganga (Ukraine, 2022)
- Operation Kaveri (Sudan, 2023)
- Operation Ajay (Israel, 2023)
These operations have highlighted India’s “nation first” approach while upholding humanitarian values.
From diplomacy and defence to climate and health, India’s global strategy has fused ambition with action—crafting alliances, mediating conflict, and leading on issues that matter to the world. As a result, India today is not only a rising power but a responsible global leader helping to shape a new international order.
