Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address at the G7 Outreach Session in Canada, strongly condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it an attack not just on India, but on all of humanity. He urged the international community to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and to end double standards in dealing with states that support terror.
Speaking at the session themed “Energy Security: Diversification, Technology and Infrastructure”, PM Modi took the opportunity to highlight growing global security threats, particularly terrorism. “Terrorism is an enemy of humanity. It is against all countries that uphold democratic values,” he asserted.
He thanked the global community for its support in India’s fight against terrorism, but also delivered a clear message: countries that sponsor terrorism must be held accountable, not rewarded. “On one hand, we are quick to impose all kinds of sanctions based on our preferences. On the other, countries that openly support terrorism are rewarded,” he said, calling out global hypocrisy.
PM Modi posed three critical questions to the world:
- Will countries recognize the threat of terrorism only when they themselves become victims?
- How can perpetrators of terror and their victims ever be treated as equals?
- Will global institutions continue to remain mute spectators to terrorism?
He also turned the spotlight on the Global South, saying its nations suffer the most during global crises—whether due to food, fuel, fertilizer, or finance disruptions. “India considers it its duty to raise the concerns of the Global South,” PM Modi said, stressing that a sustainable global future must begin with addressing the needs of the world’s most vulnerable regions.
The speech reaffirmed India’s strong and unwavering stance against terrorism while emphasizing the need for fair, inclusive, and consistent global action.
