The four co-accused in the shocking murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi were brought to Guwahati airport from Indore by Shillong Police early Wednesday and are now being transported to Shillong for further investigation.

Meghalaya Police have secured a seven-day transit remand for the accused — Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and Anand — who, along with the victim’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, are allegedly involved in the premeditated killing.

Meanwhile, Sonam Raghuvanshi, identified as the prime accused and wife of the deceased, was taken to Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong for a medical examination. She is currently under a three-day transit remand.

Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam, both residents of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had recently gotten married and travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. Raja’s body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Sohra (Cherrapunji). Sonam was later found alone near a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway.

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed on Tuesday that all accused have been arrested from different states, with at least two having confessed to their role in the murder. “Sonam, being the prime suspect, is fully involved,” he said, adding that the accused will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) upon arrival in Shillong.

Earlier, tensions flared at Indore airport when a bystander, Sushil Lakwani, attempted to assault one of the accused while police were escorting them. Lakwani expressed outrage over the murder of a fellow Indore resident, stating, “They should be hanged till death. The woman killed the man with full planning.”

The case continues to attract national attention as the investigation unfolds into what police believe was a well-orchestrated murder during a honeymoon trip.
