Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday flagged off the ‘Tiranga Shaurya Samman Yatra’ in Dehradun, marking the state’s participation in a nationwide campaign launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to honour the valour of the Indian Armed Forces.
The yatra is part of a broader national outreach that began on May 14 and will continue until May 23. It aims to commemorate the bravery of soldiers and raise public awareness about Operation Sindoor, the Indian military’s retaliatory strikes on nine terror hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
The Dehradun leg, like similar events across the country, drew participation from citizens, veterans, and party workers, all united under the national flag in a show of patriotism and respect for the armed forces.
Similar yatras were flagged off in other states, including Odisha, where newly sworn-in Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, accompanied by BJP state president Manmohan Samal, led the tribute in Bhubaneswar. In Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta joined BJP leaders Tarun Chugh and Virendra Sachdeva in launching a symbolic march with a towering 108-foot-tall national flag. The Delhi yatra commenced at Kartavya Path and will conclude at the National War Memorial.
The initiative, which includes marches, public events, and digital outreach, is being positioned by the BJP as more than a political effort—it seeks to evolve into a nationwide movement of patriotism and public pride.
Party sources said that ex-servicemen, social workers, and prominent citizens will lead yatras in various regions to reinforce the message of national unity and sacrifice. A strategy meeting led by BJP National President JP Nadda on May 12 at the party headquarters mapped out the campaign’s rollout, with senior leaders like Sambit Patra, Vinod Tawde, and Tarun Chugh coordinating efforts across states.
In addition to on-ground events, the BJP will hold press conferences nationwide and mobilize social media influencers to amplify the campaign digitally, especially among younger demographics.
The ‘Tiranga Shaurya Samman Yatra’ reflects a renewed effort to celebrate the country’s armed forces, foster a sense of national pride, and galvanize public sentiment around India’s security and sovereignty.
