The Indian Army has successfully repelled a series of drone attacks and ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces during the night of May 8 and 9 along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, according to an official statement.

In a post on X, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) confirmed that the attacks were “effectively neutralised” and retaliatory action was carried out under Operation Sindoor, a military campaign launched on May 7 targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire Western Border… The Indian Army responded strongly to ceasefire violations and thwarted all drone threats. We remain committed to safeguarding national sovereignty,” the Army said.

On Thursday, more than 50 Pakistani drones were shot down across multiple sectors including Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot, defence sources told ANI. The counter-drone operation, one of the largest of its kind, involved the use of L-70 guns, ZU-23 mm, Schilka systems, and other advanced counter-UAS technologies.

The Army confirmed that the attacks targeted civilian areas, but no casualties were reported due to timely interception and strong retaliatory measures.

The developments mark a major escalation along the LoC amid heightened military alertness, with Indian forces reaffirming their resolve to counter any hostile action with “force and precision.”
