A complete blackout was enforced in Jammu early Friday morning after sirens and multiple explosions were reported near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir, as tensions continue to escalate between India and Pakistan.

The cause of the explosions is still under investigation, and further details are awaited from official sources.

This development comes amid a series of heightened security alerts and military responses. On Thursday night, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration attempt along the International Boundary in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir. BSF officials confirmed the attempt took place around 11:00 pm on May 8, and said it was successfully repelled.

Simultaneously, two Pakistani drones were shot down by the Indian Army in the Naushera sector, during an intense exchange of artillery fire between the two countries.

According to the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Pakistani forces attempted to target Indian military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, located near the International Border. The Indian Armed Forces swiftly neutralised the threats using both kinetic and non-kinetic means, with no loss of life reported.

“Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur… targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones. No losses. Threat neutralised… as per SoP,” read a statement posted by the Integrated Defence Staff on X.

These events follow India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, a major retaliatory offensive in which the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision missile strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes reportedly targeted infrastructure linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 28 civilians.

The situation along the border remains tense, with military and civil authorities maintaining high alert across multiple sectors.
