External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday expressed confidence in the WAVES 2025 summit as a vital global platform to deliberate on pressing issues facing the media, entertainment, and creative sectors.

Co-chairing the Global Media Dialogue in Mumbai alongside Cabinet Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State L. Murugan, Jaishankar hailed the summit as a “microcosm of the global community,” bringing together content creators, policymakers, actors, writers, producers, and visual artists.

“The world order under transformation today has a strong cultural dimension,” Jaishankar said, emphasizing the need to amplify traditional heritage, ideas, and creativity. He further stressed the importance of both physical and digital connectivity in shaping a global workforce, calling for policy and mindset shifts to support emerging sectors like creative communication, sports, and collaborations.

Jaishankar also addressed the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, noting that while it offers unprecedented possibilities, it also brings ethical challenges. “The responsible use of emerging technologies will be an increasing preoccupation—so will reducing bias, democratizing content, and prioritizing its ethics,” he said.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, WAVES 2025 is India’s first international summit dedicated to the audio-visual and entertainment industries. The four-day event hosts over 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, 300 companies, and 350 startups from more than 90 countries.

Jaishankar concluded by reaffirming his confidence that the WAVES platform would spark meaningful global dialogue on the evolving future of media and creativity.
