Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Chief Farooq Abdullah on Monday said that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who must decide what “answer” should be given to Pakistan in the aftermath of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
Speaking ahead of the special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly convened to address the tragedy, Abdullah responded to questions about India’s response by saying, “Ask the Prime Minister what answer should be given to Pakistan.”
JKNC chief whip Mubarak Gul also condemned the attack, calling it “a murder of entire humanity.” He added, “This brutal killing of innocents is not part of our culture. Entire Kashmir has united in condemning this attack.”
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat defended Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra’s controversial remarks, clarifying that Karra’s comments had a broader context. “Karra Sahab’s statement does not mean that we are not against terrorism. Congress has tried wars, dialogues, and internal measures to fight extremism. National security is paramount, and we are with the nation. While the government must act, we believe all options, including dialogue, should remain open,” Bhat explained.
At the Assembly session, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary moved a resolution condemning the Pahalgam terror attack and endorsing the diplomatic measures announced by the Union Government after the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting.
The Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead, is among the deadliest in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama strike. In response, India has undertaken strong measures against Pakistan over its continued support for cross-border terrorism.
