A woman from Assam’s Golaghat district has been arrested for allegedly making “controversial” and “anti-national” comments regarding the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, on April 22.

According to Golaghat Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh, the woman, identified as Dadhichi Dimple alias Dimple Baruah, was detained by the Crime Branch from Guwahati and later handed over to Golaghat police for formal arrest.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma defended the recent spate of arrests against individuals accused of expressing pro-Pakistan sentiments in the wake of the attack. Speaking to the media, Sarma stated, “Eight to nine people have been arrested so far. That is why he (Aminul Islam) is in prison. I will do this again. I will take any action against such people.”

Among those arrested is AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, who was taken into custody after a video surfaced allegedly showing him defending terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack. Islam was remanded to four days of police custody by a local court in Nagaon district.

In a post on X, CM Sarma listed individuals arrested across various districts, including Hailakandi, Silchar, Morigaon, Nagaon, and Sivasagar, for allegedly promoting Pakistan’s cause on social media. “Assam will not tolerate any individual who, directly or indirectly, supports or defends Pakistan in connection with the heinous attack in Pahalgam,” Sarma declared.

The Assam Police have also arrested two more individuals as part of the ongoing crackdown: Md. Jarif Ali from Barpeta and Anil Bania from Biswanath.

AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was booked under sections 152, 196, 197(1), 113(3), 352, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS), Assam Police confirmed in an official update.

Authorities have vowed to continue their strict action against any expression of support for terrorism, signaling zero tolerance for “anti-national” sentiments in the state.
