In a high-level meeting held on Wednesday at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in Delhi, top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders gathered to discuss the party’s upcoming organisational elections and the much-anticipated selection of a new National President.

The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP’s National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh. Sources within the party indicated that an announcement regarding the National President’s election could be made within the coming week.

Alongside deliberations on the national leadership, the discussions also focused on key organisational changes at the state level. Names for new state unit presidents in key states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh were reportedly reviewed. The party is likely to announce new leadership in around six states within the next two to three days.

The reshuffle is considered crucial for shaping the BJP’s strategy ahead of upcoming state and national elections.

“The election process for selecting the BJP’s National President is expected to commence anytime after April 20,” a party source stated.

The election, originally scheduled for January, has been delayed due to ongoing deliberations over the most suitable candidate to steer the party forward. Insiders suggest that the leadership is being meticulous to ensure the new president can effectively build on the party’s organisational strength.

Current BJP National President J.P. Nadda, who has been serving since January 2020, had his tenure extended beyond the standard three-year term to provide continuity and stability during this transitional phase. As per the BJP constitution, the National President is typically elected for a three-year term through an internal consensus process.
