In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police on Sunday busted an interstate human trafficking syndicate and rescued a newborn baby boy, believed to be just 3–4 days old. Three individuals involved in the illicit operation were arrested from Uttam Nagar, Delhi.
The accused have been identified as Yashmin (30), Anjali (36), and Jitender (47). Notably, Anjali was previously implicated in a similar case, police revealed. The gang allegedly sourced newborns from Gujarat and Rajasthan to sell them to affluent families in the Delhi NCR region for sums ranging between ₹5–10 lakh.
Following a tip-off, the Special Staff of Dwarka police initiated surveillance and analyzed call records of over 20 suspected numbers over a span of 20 days. The trio was apprehended on April 8, 2025, and a newborn baby was found in their possession.
A case has been registered at the Uttam Nagar Police Station under FIR No. 178/25. Charges include multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), Ankit Singh, stated that during interrogation, the suspects named a woman identified as Saroj as the mastermind behind the operation. “They confessed to bringing babies from other states and selling them under her direction,” Singh said.
Authorities are now working to locate the infant’s parents, identify the gang leader Saroj, and trace other individuals involved in the trafficking network. The investigation remains ongoing.
