Former Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai on Saturday asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is gaining strength in the state and will unseat the ruling DMK in the 2026 Assembly elections. He credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit for energizing the alliance and emphasized that their mission is clear: bring the NDA to power in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters, Annamalai said, “I am a karyakarta (worker) of the party. My only job is to strengthen the hands of our new president. The NDA has become stronger and bigger after the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The NDA in Tamil Nadu has become dynamic. The vision is clear—DMK has to go, and NDA has to come to power.”

Annamalai also took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Nainar Nagendran, who was unanimously elected as the new BJP Tamil Nadu State President. “Thiru @NainarBJP avl’s vast political experience and unwavering commitment inspire confidence that our party will emerge stronger in TN under his leadership,” he wrote, expressing optimism for the party’s future in the state.

He added that under Nagendran’s leadership, the BJP will work toward realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a prosperous Tamil Nadu and a developed India.

Backing this sentiment, BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan also declared that the “last chapter” of the DMK government has begun. She praised the NDA’s renewed energy and stated, “With the new alliance, we will win 2026, and the anti-people DMK will be rooted out.”

Responding to criticism from DMK leaders who have called the BJP-AIADMK partnership an “opportunist” alliance, Soundararajan defended the coalition. “It is not a selfish alliance. They are saying it is an opportunist alliance. I would say it is an opportunity created—not opportunism—to root out the DMK government.”

Soundararajan also took aim at DMK Minister K. Ponmudy over his recent controversial remarks about women, saying that a mere apology was insufficient. “The scar has already been created. Is this the Dravidian model? He should be sacked from the government,” she demanded.

As the political landscape heats up ahead of the 2026 elections, the NDA in Tamil Nadu is signaling a more unified and aggressive stance, determined to challenge the DMK’s hold on the state.
