On the occasion of World Health Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a healthier and more resilient nation, stressing that “Health is the ultimate fortune and wealth.”

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi wrote: “On World Health Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a healthier world. Our Government will keep focusing on healthcare and invest in different aspects of people’s well-being. Good health is the foundation of every thriving society!”

He also shared a video message quoting the Sanskrit phrase “Aarogyam Paramam Bhagyam”, which he explained means “Health is the greatest fortune”. He used the platform to raise awareness about lifestyle diseases, particularly obesity, which he described as a rising threat to the nation’s health.

Citing a recent report, the Prime Minister warned that over 440 million Indians could suffer from obesity by 2050 if corrective steps are not taken. He urged citizens to reduce cooking oil consumption by 10%, adopt healthier dietary habits, and incorporate regular exercise into daily routines.

“We have to act now. Cutting down on oil and making fitness a part of daily life can significantly reduce obesity. This will be a big contribution towards a Viksit Bharat (Developed India),” he said.

Aligned with the World Health Organization’s 2025 theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” PM Modi highlighted how India is advancing healthcare through flagship initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and the National Health Mission (NHM). These efforts focus on improving maternal and child health, expanding digital healthcare access, and strengthening public health infrastructure.

World Health Day, observed every April 7, marks the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1950 and serves as a global call to action to tackle critical health challenges.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has made significant progress in public health through targeted schemes and reforms under the NHM, contributing to improved health outcomes nationwide.
