The Union government is set to introduce the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, with Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal moving the legislation. The bill seeks to streamline coastal trade regulations, encourage domestic participation, and ensure that India has a nationally owned and operated coastal fleet for both commercial and security needs.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and BJP MP Mitesh Patel Bakabhai will present the sixth report of the Standing Committee on External Affairs, focusing on the Indian diaspora overseas, including NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and migrant workers. The report will assess their welfare, challenges, and the status of the Emigration Bill, according to the list of business for the day.

Additionally, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will provide an update on the implementation of recommendations from the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing regarding demands for grants for agricultural research and education.

The day’s parliamentary proceedings will also see Ganesh Singh and Ramvir Singh Bhiduri presenting multiple reports from the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The seventh report will focus on the formulation and implementation of OBC reservation policies, along with steps taken to ensure representation in employment and welfare schemes.

Sources indicate that a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the Lok Sabha will be chaired on Tuesday, where The Waqf Amendment Bill is also expected to be listed for discussion.
