Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s refusal to apologize for his remarks during a recent show has drawn sharp criticism from Maharashtra government officials, including Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam and Minister Gulab Patil.

MoS Home Yogesh Kadam condemned Kamra’s statements, declaring that he would face consequences. “He will be punished. If you are going to insult the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister of India, and Hindu Gods and Goddesses, it will not be tolerated. You cannot behave like this in Maharashtra or India… Comedy is welcome, but this is not the kind that will be accepted here,” Kadam said on Tuesday.

Echoing similar sentiments, Minister Gulab Patil issued a stern warning. “If he doesn’t apologize, we will deal with him in our own way. Shiv Sena won’t leave him. We won’t tolerate this insult. If he doesn’t apologize, where will he hide? Shiv Sena will show its real form,” he warned.

Despite the backlash, Kamra remained defiant, releasing a statement on social media on Monday asserting that he would not apologize.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Khar Police summoned Kamra for questioning at 11 AM today regarding an FIR filed against him over his remarks. However, Mumbai Police confirmed that Kamra is not currently in the city. The case was initially registered by MIDC police before being transferred to Khar police for further investigation.

Kamra’s comments, particularly about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his latest YouTube video, have led to widespread controversy. Following his remarks, Shiv Sena workers vandalized The Habitat, a comedy venue in Mumbai, on Sunday.

Kamra defended his right to free expression, emphasizing that an entertainment venue is merely a platform and should not be held responsible for his comedy. However, with political pressure mounting, the controversy surrounding his statements continues to escalate.
