The Supreme Court has released the inquiry report submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay regarding the controversy surrounding High Court Justice Yashwant Varma, according to an official press release.
In the report, Chief Justice Upadhyay stated that the matter “prima facie warrants a deeper probe.” The Supreme Court also made public Justice Varma’s response, in which he categorically denied the allegations, calling them a “conspiracy to frame and malign” him.
Justice Varma asserted that neither he nor his family members had placed any cash in the storeroom where it was allegedly discovered. He further clarified that the room in question was an outhouse, separate from the main building where he and his family reside.
As part of the ongoing investigation, Chief Justice Upadhyay instructed Justice Varma to preserve all communications on his phone, including messages, calls, and data, following directives from the Chief Justice of India.
The controversy erupted following reports that a fire at Justice Varma’s residence on March 14 inadvertently led firefighters to discover cash on the premises. The judge was not at home at the time of the incident.
With the Supreme Court acknowledging the need for further investigation, the case continues to unfold amid intense scrutiny.
