Four individuals, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar Singh in Munger, Bihar, an official confirmed on Saturday.

Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Imran Masood identified the accused as Ranveer Yadav, Guddu Yadav, Vikas Yadav, and a female member of their family. The arrests follow a series of raids conducted by police after the incident, which occurred on March 14 in Nandlalpur village during the Holi celebrations.

“This unfortunate incident led to the loss of ASI Santosh Kumar’s life,” SP Masood said, adding that police teams had been working relentlessly since the night of the incident. The officer also detailed how one of the accused, Guddu Yadav, had attempted to escape, snatching a police rifle during an accident involving a police vehicle. He was shot in the foot in self-defense and is considered the main suspect in the murder.

Bihar Minister Prem Kumar has vowed that the culprits will face swift justice, stating, “There is rule of law in Bihar. The ASI’s killers will not be spared. An expedited trial will ensure the strictest punishment.”

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha also condemned the crime, labeling it as “unfortunate” and warned that the administration would take all necessary steps, including encounters, to deal with such individuals. “We will not allow such people to challenge the administration,” Sinha said.

Bihar Police Association President Mrityunjay Kumar Singh condemned the attack and demanded compensation and a job for ASI Singh’s family.

ASI Santosh Kumar Singh was fatally injured when he tried to mediate a dispute involving the family of Ranveer Kumar. The assailants, allegedly intoxicated, attacked the officer on the head, and despite efforts to save him, Singh succumbed to his injuries at Patna Paras Hospital.
