Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has mocked the all-party meeting called by Chief Minister MK Stalin, calling it the “funniest” and claiming that the discussions will have no impact on the common man. He dismissed fears that southern states would be disadvantaged by the delimitation process as “imaginary.”

“The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has called for an all-party meeting. Now, this is the funniest all-party meeting because nobody knows what the agenda is. Even when you go to a marriage, you will know the person who is getting married. But in this case, CM has called for an all-party meeting on an imaginary issue. It only shows his fear,” Annamalai told reporters.

The all-party meeting is set to take place on March 5, focusing on the issue of delimitation. However, the BJP has decided to boycott the meeting, accusing CM Stalin of misconstruing the delimitation exercise and spreading baseless fears.

Annamalai emphasized that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already clarified that the delimitation process would be conducted on a pro-rata basis.

“The Chief Minister is not discussing any issue affecting the common man. He wants to talk about arbitrary issues. No central government representative has spoken about delimitation. In fact, Amit Shah Ji has clearly stated it will be on a pro-rata basis,” Annamalai said.

He further criticized the assumptions being made about the delimitation process. “Who said 848 seats? CM Stalin assumes 848 seats. Who said Tamil Nadu is losing 12 seats? With this imaginary fear, he is calling for an all-party meeting without an agenda. Why should we waste our time attending that meeting when the Union Home Minister has already clarified the issue? Tamil Nadu’s CM needs to rise above this petty politics,” he added.

Last month, Amit Shah, at a BJP event in Coimbatore, reassured that southern states would not be disadvantaged by the delimitation process. Despite these clarifications, the DMK has expressed concerns that delimitation based on population from the upcoming census could reduce the number of Lok Sabha seats allotted to southern states.

Meanwhile, Annamalai chaired the BJP’s core committee meeting on Tuesday at the party’s office in Chennai to strategize for the state assembly elections scheduled for next year.

He also announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would visit Tamil Nadu soon. “Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tamil Nadu in two days. A lot of changes may take place,” Annamalai stated.

The next Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are expected to take place in April-May 2026.
