BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, accusing it of corruption and mismanagement highlighted in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. Chugh claimed that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s administration prioritized its controversial liquor policy over essential sectors like education and public welfare.
“Today, the CAG report is being discussed in the Delhi Assembly. Discussions on theft and scams are crucial for a healthy democracy. Instead of opening schools, Arvind Kejriwal’s government opened bars in Delhi,” Chugh said while speaking to ANI. He added that the BJP was committed to exposing corruption and ensuring strict punishment for those responsible for misusing public funds.
In response, AAP leader Atishi defended the Kejriwal-led government, arguing that the report mainly addressed flaws in the old excise policy, which AAP itself had flagged and sought to rectify through a new policy. “The excise audit report presented in the Delhi Assembly today covers the period from 2017-21. It was the AAP government that exposed the flaws and corruption of the old excise policy and worked on introducing a better one,” Atishi stated during a press conference.
Atishi further claimed that under the earlier policy, liquor was being illegally sourced from neighboring states, leading to financial losses for Delhi.
Amid the heated debates, AAP MLAs and Atishi, the Leader of Opposition, staged a protest outside the Delhi Vidhan Sabha after being denied entry, holding ‘Jai Bhim’ placards in a show of defiance.
Meanwhile, the CAG report on the Delhi Excise Policy, tabled earlier in the week by newly elected CM Rekha Gupta, highlighted several alleged irregularities from the Kejriwal government’s tenure. As discussions continue, issues like Delhi’s ongoing water crisis and sewerage problems remain at the forefront of public concern.
