Herve Delphin, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to India, highlighted the significance of the upcoming visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to India, calling it a crucial moment for India-EU relations.

Delphin emphasized that the visit underscores the importance the EU places on its relationship with India. “This will be an important week for EU-India relations. For the very first time, the President of the European Commission and the entire college — equivalent to a full government of the EU Commission — will come to Delhi for two days of talks. This visit is highly symbolic and speaks about the importance the EU attaches to its relationship with India. We both see each other as partners of choice and forces for good,” he said.

Delphin also stressed the need for stabilizing global forces, noting that discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ursula von der Leyen will explore the potential of enhancing their partnership.

“In this world, at this moment, we need stabilizing forces. During the conversations between Prime Minister Modi and President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as between commissioners and ministers of the Union Cabinet, we’ll explore all the potential of these relations. This will offer opportunities to take our partnership to a new level and pave the way for a very rich and rewarding year in 2025, culminating in an EU-India summit and the adoption of a new strategic agenda,” Delphin stated.

According to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, President Ursula von der Leyen, accompanied by the European Union College of Commissioners, will pay an official visit to India on February 27-28, 2025, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
