Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi took aim at the Union government on Saturday, accusing it of undermining the Constitution and the values it upholds. Speaking at a United Democratic Front (UDF) booth-level meeting in Wayanad, the Wayanad MP emphasized that the party’s fight was larger than personal ambitions, as it was a battle to defend the Constitution.

“We are fighting for something much greater than our own needs or ambitions. Today, we are up against the entire government machinery that is eroding our Constitution and the principles it stands for. Although we are facing challenging circumstances, I assure you that this fight is for the right values, for truth, and for what is just,” Priyanka Gandhi stated.

She also commended the hard work of UDF workers at the booth level, calling them the backbone of the party. “You are the soldiers, the warriors of the Congress party, and the rebels. Rahul ji calls you lions, and he is absolutely right,” she said.

Referring to the daily struggles of local communities, Priyanka highlighted the role of UDF workers in addressing problems related to infrastructure, healthcare, and education. “Whether it’s a small issue someone in your panchayat is facing, like road access, water, schooling, or healthcare, you stand with them. You fight alongside them. And when you take on the larger issues affecting Wayanad, you do so because it is your duty, and you do it wholeheartedly,” she added.

In her address, Priyanka also spoke about the ongoing efforts to establish a medical college in Wayanad, a key concern for the region. She pointed out that her brother, Rahul Gandhi, had been a strong advocate for the project. “There are still many big issues to resolve in Wayanad, including the medical college project. Rahul ji has fought for this issue every step of the way, and progress is being made, but there is still much work to be done,” she said.

Rahul Gandhi, who had promised a medical college for Wayanad, had raised the issue during Priyanka’s campaign in November 2024. Last year, in April, while addressing a rally in Kerala’s Kozhikode, Rahul Gandhi expressed his frustration over the delay. “I know there are local issues in Wayanad, such as human-animal conflict and the night traffic ban. But I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for the state government to deliver a medical college for Wayanad. I have spoken to the Chief Minister personally, and we will continue to press for this. We are committed to solving these problems,” he had said.
