Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025 by taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday morning.

Upon arriving in Prayagraj, the Prime Minister took a boat ride along the Yamuna River with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Modi, dressed in a bright saffron-colored jacket and blue track pants, offered prayers and immersed himself in the spiritual significance of the holy waters.

The Mahakumbh 2025, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025), is the world’s largest spiritual and cultural gathering, drawing millions of devotees from around the globe. The event will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26, with an increasing number of pilgrims joining the sacred occasion.

In his efforts to preserve and promote India’s rich spiritual heritage, Prime Minister Modi has been actively involved in enhancing infrastructure at pilgrimage sites. During his visit to Prayagraj in December 2024, he inaugurated 167 development projects worth Rs 5,500 crore, improving connectivity and services for pilgrims and the general public.

By 8 a.m. on Wednesday, over 3.748 million devotees had taken a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam, further enriching the spiritual fervor of the Mahakumbh. This includes more than 1 million Kalpvasis and 2.748 million pilgrims who arrived early in the morning to seek divine blessings.

According to Uttar Pradesh government data, the total number of bathers since the Mahakumbh began has surpassed 382 million as of February 4, reflecting the immense cultural and spiritual importance of the event.

On Tuesday, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk visited Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh 2025 and participated in various spiritual activities. He, along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, offered prayers at the Lete Hanuman Mandir and toured the Digital Mahakumbh Experience Centre.
