Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit Prayagraj on Friday, marking his first trip to the city since the tragic stampede during the Mahakumbh mela.
During his visit, CM Yogi will welcome Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and participate in Mahakumbh-related programs alongside him. Following this, he will visit Satua Baba Ashram in Sector-21 and Bharat Seva Shram Camp in Sector-5. Additionally, he is set to meet representatives of Heads of Mission from various countries at the Mela Circuit House. A 118-member delegation, including diplomats from 77 countries and their spouses, will also visit the Mahakumbh today.
Earlier this week, during the Mauni Amavasya ritual, a devastating stampede at the Mahakumbh claimed the lives of at least 30 people. A three-member judicial commission was promptly formed to investigate the incident. On Friday, the commission visited the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj, where many victims were treated. The stampede left 30 dead and 60 injured. The commission’s role is to determine the causes and circumstances of the tragedy and to provide recommendations to prevent future incidents. The investigation report is expected to be submitted within a month.
Meanwhile, over 5.42 million devotees bathed in the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati at the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. This includes over 1 million Kalpavasis and 4.42 million pilgrims who took a dip in the Triveni waters on Saturday.
Since the start of the event on January 13, more than 314.6 million people have already participated in the ritual as of January 31. The Mahakumbh will continue until February 26, with key bathing dates remaining on February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
