Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of ₹3 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred on Wednesday morning in the Uttara Kannada and Raichur districts. The accidents claimed a total of 15 lives and left several others injured.
“The state government will provide ₹3 lakh compensation to the families of those who died in the accidents in Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district and Sindhanur in Raichur district,” Siddaramaiah wrote in a post on X. He also assured that free medical treatment would be arranged for those injured in the accidents.
The Chief Minister appealed to the public to drive responsibly, stating, “Haste, speeding, and carelessness are the main causes of such accidents. I urge everyone to drive carefully and stay safe.”
A tragic incident in Yellapur claimed the lives of 11 people and injured 14 others when a truck carrying vegetable sellers overturned and plunged into a 50-meter-deep valley. The victims were traveling from Savanur to Kumta market to sell vegetables.
SF Kammar, Director of KMC Hospital, provided an update on the injured victims. “One patient was brought dead to the hospital. The remaining 11 injured are currently admitted to the emergency department. They are stable but require continuous monitoring,” he said.In a separate incident, four people lost their lives, and 10 others sustained injuries after a vehicle overturned in Sindhanur, Raichur district.
Expressing his grief over the loss of lives, Siddaramaiah said, “It was heartbreaking to hear the news of 15 people losing their lives in two separate accidents in Yellapur and Sindhanur. I pray for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace and extend my condolences to the grieving families who have lost their loved ones in these tragic events.”
The state government has assured prompt assistance to the affected families and survivors, emphasizing the importance of road safety to prevent such tragedies in the future.
