The Delhi Police has stated that no permission was sought for the screening of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) documentary Unbreakable, which chronicles the incarceration of senior party leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. The police clarified that holding such an event without the necessary approval would constitute a violation of election guidelines.

According to the Delhi Police, political parties are required to obtain permissions for public events through the District Election Officer’s (DEO) single-window system during election periods. “No such permission was applied for this event. Hence, it would have been a violation of guidelines. All political activities must adhere to the established election rules,” the police statement read.

They further clarified that the Delhi Police cannot independently approve or deny permissions for political events during the election period, as such decisions fall under the jurisdiction of the DEO.

Following the announcement, AAP accused the Delhi Police of acting under the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), their primary political rival, to obstruct the screening. AAP sources alleged that theatre owners across the city had been threatened against showing the documentary.

“The Delhi Police banned the screening of Unbreakable at the BJP’s behest,” AAP claimed. “This film, which portrays the wrongful arrests of AAP leaders, was scheduled for screening at 11:30 AM today. Theatre owners have been intimidated to ensure it isn’t shown.”

Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s chief, took to social media platform X, accusing the BJP of being fearful of the documentary’s revelations. “Why is the BJP so scared of this film? What are they trying to hide? This documentary exposes the illegal and unconstitutional actions behind the wrongful arrests of AAP leaders,” Kejriwal posted.

The controversy comes just weeks ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. Both parties have intensified their campaigns, with AAP focusing on alleged injustices, while BJP continues to target AAP on governance issues.
