As the Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court is set to announce the verdict in the RG Kar rape-murder case, the father of the deceased doctor expressed his belief that the appropriate punishment for the accused will be determined by the court. Speaking to ANI on Saturday, he emphasized that the family will continue to seek justice through legal channels.

“Whatever punishment is appropriate will be decided by the court. We will keep knocking on the doors of the court until we get justice,” the father stated. He also highlighted that the DNA report indicates the involvement of multiple individuals in the crime, including four boys and one girl. “We will feel some relief when the accused are punished. Until then, we will persist and also seek the support of the public,” he added.

The father expressed disappointment with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging that they had not made significant progress in the case. “The CBI has done nothing in this matter. There is no question of satisfaction here. We have raised several concerns before the High Court and the Supreme Court, seeking answers from the courts themselves, not from the CBI,” he said.

He further mentioned that the court had reviewed all the evidence within two months and that it is now up to the court to decide the appropriate punishment for the accused.

The father also revealed that they had written letters to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Law Minister regarding the case but had not received any responses from any of them.

The case revolves around the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim’s body was discovered on August 9 in the hospital’s seminar room, triggering widespread protests. Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, was arrested in connection with the crime.

In November last year, the CBI filed a chargesheet concerning financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College, naming several individuals, including Sandip Ghosh, Dr. Ashish Kumar Pandey, Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan, for their involvement in financial misconduct. This investigation was initiated after a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

In addition to the corruption case, Sandip Ghosh was questioned about his involvement in the murder, and the CBI conducted polygraph tests on him as part of the investigation. A delay in filing the chargesheet resulted in bail being granted to the accused, including Abhijit Mondal and Sandip Ghosh.
