Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday to meet patients and understand their challenges. Gandhi interacted with several patients and their families, listening to their grievances regarding delays and inadequate treatment.
One of the patients, Govind Lal, shared his experience: “He asked me about my stay here and inquired about the treatment of my daughters.” Another patient, Pawan Kumar, whose 13-year-old daughter is battling blood cancer, said, “He took my phone number and assured me that his team would reach out to help as much as possible. We have been here since December 3, and my daughter hasn’t received proper treatment yet.”
Asha Devi, the child’s mother, added, “Rahul Gandhi promised financial support for my daughter’s treatment.”
Highlighting the situation, the Congress party posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Months of waiting for treatment, government insensitivity, and inconvenience—this is the grim reality of Delhi AIIMS today. Families coming from far-off places, burdened by illness, are forced to sleep on footpaths and subways in the freezing cold.”
Earlier, Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, inaugurated the party’s new headquarters, ‘Indira Bhawan,’ in a significant moment for the Congress, founded in 1885. The foundation for the building was laid by Sonia Gandhi on December 28, 2009, during the 125th foundation day of the party.
Addressing the gathering, Sonia Gandhi emphasized the challenges faced by Congress workers, stating, “Everyone in this room is under relentless assault while defending the values of the Congress party. Despite systematic attacks, we stand firm against the BJP and the RSS.”
Rahul Gandhi also echoed her sentiments, saying, “The Congress party is the only ideological force capable of stopping them. This building has emerged from the soil of our country, from the sacrifices of our leaders and workers. Its message must reach every corner of India.”
The inauguration of the new headquarters symbolizes the party’s resilience and its commitment to its founding principles amidst current political challenges.
