Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of building a “Sheesh Mahal” using the “sweat and blood” of Delhi’s citizens. Referring to Kejriwal as “AAP-Da’ Azam,” Sachdeva criticized the AAP leader for alleged corruption and insensitivity toward the people of the city.

“When the Mughals ruled Delhi, people visited to marvel at their palaces. Now, this ‘AAP-Da’ Azam has built a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ by looting the hard-earned money of the people, leaving a stain on Delhi’s legacy,” Sachdeva told reporters.

Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of “shamelessness” and alleged that he disrespected the very citizens who elected him. “He comes daily, attempts to hide his theft, and mocks the people of Delhi who made the mistake of trusting him,” Sachdeva said.

The BJP has labeled the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road—previously occupied by Kejriwal as Chief Minister—as “Sheesh Mahal,” criticizing the AAP government for alleged extravagant spending.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also targeted the AAP government, remarking, “In the last 10 years, Delhi has been surrounded by an ‘Aapda’ (disaster). By putting Anna Hazare at the forefront, a few ‘kattar beimaan’ (hardcore corrupt) people have led Delhi into a disaster. ‘AAP aapda bankar Delhi par toot padi hai’ (AAP has become a disaster for Delhi).”

The AAP has retaliated against the BJP’s accusations, with MP Sanjay Singh accusing BJP leaders of massive corruption during a press conference. Singh alleged that BJP leaders openly distributed ₹1,100 to buy votes and misused funds provided by their party.

“Sources reveal that BJP leaders were given ₹10,000 each by their party to distribute. Knowing they have no chance of winning, they pocket ₹9,000 and distribute just ₹1,100,” Singh claimed, challenging the BJP to disclose the truth to the public.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also accused the BJP of orchestrating large-scale voter fraud in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. Kejriwal alleged that the local election officer had “surrendered to the BJP” and was facilitating illegal activities.

“In just 22 days, 5,500 fake applications for vote cancellations have been filed in New Delhi Assembly constituency. Over the last 15 days, this number has risen to 13,000,” Kejriwal said, describing the situation as a “big scam.”

With the Delhi Assembly elections set for February 5 and counting scheduled for February 8, the political battle between AAP and BJP has escalated. The contest is expected to be a three-way race, with Congress also fielding candidates despite its recent electoral setbacks in the capital.

In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP managed only eight. Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi, failed to win any seat.

Key election deadlines include January 17 for filing nominations, January 18 for scrutiny, and January 20 for the withdrawal of candidatures.
