Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹7,300 crore in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, reaffirming the government’s focus on inclusive and sustainable growth in the Northeast.
The initiatives include the Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project valued at over ₹3,600 crore, along with five National Highway projects worth more than ₹2,500 crore, the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project, and Working Women’s Hostels at nine locations across the state.
Later in the day, PM Modi will inaugurate additional projects worth ₹1,200 crore in Imphal, including the Civil Secretariat, IT SEZ Building, New Police Headquarters at Mantripukhri, Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata, and new Ima Markets—the iconic all-women markets—in four districts.
Earlier on Saturday, the Prime Minister dedicated Mizoram’s first broad-gauge rail line between Bairabi and Sairang to the nation, describing it as a “lifeline of transformation” that will connect farmers and businesses in Mizoram to wider national markets.
Addressing the people of Mizoram virtually from Lengpui Airport due to adverse weather, Modi apologised for not being physically present in Aizawl. He paid tribute to Mizoram’s cultural and historical legacy, recalling the courage of freedom fighters like Lalnu Ropuiliani and Pasaltha Khuangchera, and said the spirit of service and sacrifice continues to inspire the nation.
