United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that trade negotiations with India are back on track, expressing confidence that the two countries will reach a successful agreement without difficulty.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am pleased to announce that India and the United States of America are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!”

The announcement comes weeks after Washington imposed a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods, along with an additional 25 per cent penalty on imports of Russian oil.

Speaking at the White House earlier this week, Trump described India-US relations as a “very special relationship” and reiterated his friendship with Prime Minister Modi. While he voiced some dissatisfaction with India’s recent policies, he stressed that there was “nothing to worry about” and that both nations occasionally faced “moments” in their partnership.

Trump also dismissed concerns that India and Russia were drifting closer to China, saying he did not believe such an alignment had occurred.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, responding on X, welcomed Trump’s remarks, stating that he “deeply appreciates and fully reciprocates” the US President’s sentiments. Modi described India-US ties as “forward-looking,” highlighting their “Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership.”
